Q:How effective are phone sessions or on-line therapy?
Both can be very effective. These venues eliminate many of the obstacles that prevent people from seeking and receiving therapy, such as being in geographically isolated areas, being homebound, and having fear of being seen due to feelings of shame around their problems.
The only concern may be with regards to confidentiality as telephone sessions (especially cell phone signals and SKYPE sessions) do send out a broadcast band radio wave. In general, however, telephone and SKYPE are anonymous, and effective therapy venues for most of the issues that bring people into traditional therapy, as well as providing web-cam options on SKYPE which adds some of the benefits of traditional face-to-face therapy, while using an easier, more cost-effective and convenient access. Online Therapy can also help stay-at-home parents, adolescents who are already comfortable being online, busy executives.
